This year I had the privilege of attending the Design Indaba Expo on behalf of The Threaded Man, reporting on all things cool and innovative. The Design Indaba Expo is an expo where South African creatives showcase their high-end and homegrown products. The expo takes place in March and there are many stalls to buy from, delicious treats to indulge in and amazing fashion shows throughout the weekend. This was my first time attending this event as the official contributor/features editor (Cape Town) for the popular, Joburg Men’s Lifestyle & Fashion blog, The Threaded Man. I have never attended any entertainment/fashion/design event as part of the media so I felt really confident but anxious at the same time. This time what I had to say and what I captured through the lens of my camera would actually mean something, I was given the special task of attending and then relaying information obtained for a specific audience.
The entire Expo is hugely overwhelming, many people come pouring in through the CTICC hall doors hour after hour, all wanting to see what has been exhibited for the year. Although the purpose of this expo is to showcase up-and-coming creatives, get recognition for their new works and hopefully sell to the public, many people actually attend to draw some sort of inspiration from all that they see.and experience at the expo. I left the expo everyday feeling extremely inspired. It is always amazing to see what other people are creating and doing for themselves, it pushes you to want to develop your own skills and make use of your talents.
I hope i get to attended again next year to see what more our local creatives have to offer.
