Homemade Contemporary Fair | VIP Opening night

This weekend saw Joburg residents flock to Hyde Park Corner to sample the wares of SA’s top producers. Hyde Park corner was transformed to become the home to 120 talented local producers for the sixth annual Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair.

The VIP opening night was definitely an evening that I had anticipated for weeks, I could not wait to attend the opening night of the fair with one of my best friends, Ines. Local producers in the food, wine and design industries who have honed their skills were offered a platform to showcase their work.Glasses of chilled bubbles and the smell of grilled lamb got us excited to explore the spacious layout of the fair.  Ines and I literally wanted everything from the Super sunglasses, Victoria Verbaan artworks to the Zana laptop bags.

Over the course of the weekend 12 500 visitors braved the Joburg heatwave to engage with artisanal food producers, celebrated chefs, boutique wineries and craft distilleries as well as furniture and textile designers, jewellers, ceramicists and more.

I am so ashamed to admit that this was my first Sanlam Homemade Contemporary Fair but it definitely will not be the last. With filled tummies and a little tipsy, Ines and I had a wonderful time.

For more on the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair visit Sanlam, hope to see you at the next fair!
