When I think of Stellenbosch, spontaneous road trips with my varsity friends during our time at the University of Cape Town is what comes to mind. Being the typical Joburg kids, we often looked down on Stellies because of its small-town aura and would try to find any glamour that made the place exceptional on countless occasions. So although we’d arrive with good intentions, literally every visit ended up with several glasses of boxed wine at a friend’s place instead the whole weekend.
I started to quietly imagine retiring in Stellenbosch, a little black girl from Soweto settling there with her husband and kids one day, to get away from the big city, the noise and the distractions. One day. Something about this little town brought a sense of comfort to me, it was very peaceful there and almost everyday, I crave peace.
It’s not often that I get to travel, let alone travel by myself, without my mom or my friends or my sister, so going onto this exciting trip gave me all of the anxiety in the world. Being around new people, capturing magical moments on my camera, eating and drinking the most decadent food and wine while also being able to take everything in; truly escaping my everyday life AND having a blast drove me crazy. How in the world was I going to be able to juggle all of that for a whole week? Tough life but I definitely couldn’t have asked for a better way of spending a couple of days away from home.
I am pretty sure that a lot of my followers on social media might not be familiar with the #Stellenblog campaign so here is a brief background on this delicious food and wine travel campaign. #Stellenblog is an annual food and wine campaign that takes place in Stellenbosch that invites some international and local bloggers are to experience all that the small town has to offer. Myself and 7 other lucky bloggers were tasked to discover , capture, eat and drink our way through the magnificent town and share our unique experiences. What a dream right? And that it definitely was.
In the next couple of blog posts I will be sharing some travel tips, the best places to fill your tummy and rest your bones while in Stellenbosch. If you followed my adventures on social media last week, especially on Snapchat, and you are dying to ask me anything about the trip please feel free to leave me comments and I will be sure to answer them in blog posts to come!

Loved your posts on insta, I cannot wait for the tips! I love Cape Town but I think Stellies is such a great break away from city life and I’d love to know if they have enough to keep me there for an entire week. Maybe a long weekend away is hidden there! Who knows..
Thank you so much for reading, it literally means a lot.
You should definitely go to take some time off. Go to Majeka House for the weekend. I will write about it in the next post. x
