Eat Out | Craft

I recently paid a visit to Joburg’s trendy lunchin’ area, Parkhurst with one of my best friends, Bojosi, who happened to be in the city for a visit.

B and I hadn’t been out of the house for a while so we were both quite eager to go a mini adventure. One of B’s friends, Hlela, invited us for lunch at Craft in Parkhurst so this was the perfect opportunity to show her around and enjoy a scrumptious lunch.

I usually find lunching in Joburg quite boring because for the longest time, lunch dates meant being stuck at a restaurant in a mall. This was hardly an ideal situation for someone like me who tends to get anxious in overcrowded spaces.

Thankfully, it was a sunny, quiet afternoon in Parkhurst so the restaurant was not too full. With just a handful of people enjoying their lunch, we were able to find a quiet spot at Craft right next to the entrance which gave us the best of both worlds; we had a lovely view of the vibrant street while still sitting inside the restaurant. This totes made my heart miss Cape Town.

Before we could think of anything to stuff our faces with, we jumped for the drinks menu which impressed us with its innovative mixes and wide variety of fresh cocktails, craft beer and unique milkshake flavours. We were quite devastated that the Candy Floss Martini was not available that day. But I guess that gives me the perfect excuse to go back for drinks with Ramone one day?

We planned on taking full advantage of the day so we had to ensure that our stomachs were well prepared before hitting the streets of Braamfontein later on. The holidays were filled with countless episodes of stuffing my face with the worst kinds of Sowetan street food. So in an effort to reduce my carb and fat intake for this month, I opted for the Fillet Picanha Salad which was the best decision ever!

I finally understand why the Kardashians munch salads on the daily. It was so fresh, light and yet still very filling! My fillet salad was accompanied by a dry, white wine and pineapple cocktail which ended up being a bit too potent for me so I added some freshly pressed ginger & pineapple juice.

B opted for the succulent pulled pork sliders, which she found too sweet for her liking so she ended up picking at my salad and Hlela’s yummy Pizza instead.

I love that everything at Craft is fresh and 100% handmade! The service is impeccable whilst the atmosphere and perfect lighting also didn’t hurt in presenting a ton of perfect Instagram photo opps.

Obviously leaving the house was well worth it and it also sparked some inspo to discover more gems around Jhb. In fact, I plan to go back to try out their mussel pot and Salted Caramel Baked Cheese Cake next!

What are you favourite Joburg lunch spots?
